Coming off last night's Impact, I thought it was a good time to give some thoughts on TNA. Let's get right to it...
- TNA Goes on the road: I haven't heard if this is a permanent thing, but if TNA can afford it, they should keep going on the road. The arena itself made TNA look more like a big time company, than Universal Studios does. Plus, you won't see the same fans in the same seats every week, which was often the case at Universal Studios. I thought the entrance stage itself was really cool. It was fairly simple, but really effective. I loved the moving screens. Also, the biggest plus for TNA taking Impact on the road is that so many fans in different areas get the TNA Live experience. For example, I live in New York and I've only been able to attend one TNA live event. It was a fantastic show by the way and even with Bronchitis and an ear infection I made it out to the Hammerstein Ballroom and had a great time. Now hopefully, TNA can bring Impact to the New York area, and other places, fairly often. Overall, I say its a great move by TNA, if they can afford it.
- Sting Returns: I'm kind of mixed on this one. On the one hand, I'm glad to see Sting wrestling again, and apparently in good shape. But on the other hand, his return was a huge letdown as the big surprise, especially when he's already made so many returns and he's only been gone a few months. I think having Sting win the title was a big time mistake. If TNA wants to succeed, they need the guys that are in their prime now to carry the company. Guys like Jeff Hardy, AJ Styles, and Mr. Anderson. I don't know what Hardy's situation is right now and if he will be around soon. They keep mentioning on TV wanting to give Hardy vacation time. I'm not sure if those are throw away lines or if they are trying to write him off for a little while. Anyway, if Jeff can't be around, they should have had Anderson take the title back. Personally, I feel like having Sting return and win the title right away kind of diminishes what TNA has done to build up their stars. Plus, Sting's title win is already somewhat tainted in that Sting knew he was taking on Hardy but Hardy didn't know he was taking on Sting. That being said, I bet Hardy got a kick out of having a title match with Sting. Hardy strikes me as a person who was probably a huge Sting fan growing up.
- Jersey Shore invading TNA: I guess this is good for exposure but it's hard to watch. Angelina from the Jersey Shore isn't that bad to look at, but when she started talking she just seemed super annoying. Even worse is Cookie, who I think is pretty awful on the mic, and she does this for a living. I don't know why Madison Rayne seems to be taking a back seat to this crap, but I think the main focus should be on the Knockouts Champion. By the way, has anyone else forgotten that the Knockouts division has tag team titles? When was the last time they were defended?
- Hernandez and Matt Morgan: I'm talking about them together because I don't have too much to say about either. Hernandez strikes me as someone who could be a star, but he seems kind of sloppy and reckless in the ring. Also, I don't know if this bothers anyone else but I hate when he does those poses showing off his tattoos. I don't mind him showing them off, assuming they have some meaning, but I can't even tell what they say. I think that makes the whole pose pointless. As for Matt Morgan, I find myself liking this guy more and more. I think he's got potential to be a big star. What really surprises me about him is his ability to portray both a heel and babyface equally well. Especially for someone with his size and look, I would think being a believable babyface could be tough. There's something about him that is believable either way. Also, he seems to be a pretty intelligent guy with a good head on his shoulders. That should help him last a long time at the top.
- Bart Scott: Two words: Epic Fail! Somehow TNA managed to screw this up big time. I don't know why they had him aligned with Immortal and pretend he didn't know who Kurt Angle was. Then he came out to beat up Angle and got his ass handed to him on a silver platter. He was totally not believable as a heel. They should have had him as a babyface and just get the crowd pumped while he did something. Also, I thought it looked bad for Flair's warning to Angle was that if he ruined the ceremony he would have to deal with Bart Scott. To me that says, "Football players are a lot tougher than wrestlers. So you may be able to handle a group of wrestlers, but there's no way you can handle this big bad football player." Chris Jericho recently said that if you don't project that you are working for the best company, people won't believe you are part of the best company. I think that idea applies to this. I did get a kick out of Taz worrying about the Jets defense when Bart Scott was in the ankle lock.
- Renewing of Vows: I was looking forward to this but it turned out the be a failure. The first segment was one of the worst wrestling segments I've seen in a long time. They rushed way too much to get to the major spot, then kept the segment going too long once they hit the spot. Besides that, the whole first segment was pretty pointless. The second segment was a little better but still pretty stupid. Jeff Jarrett was the clear star of the segment as he actually performed well. He carried the segment by doing little things like constantly looking over at Kurt and telling Karen to scoot over. Karen Jarrett looked like she just finished filming a porno. I'm not gonna say anything further on that, if you don't get it, it's OK. It's not that funny. Kurt's smile was really creepy, but kind of funny. I know your supposed to suspend reality when watching wrestling but how the hell did Angle get an axe under the podium? It's a bit of a stretch for me to buy that no one saw him or anyone else put an axe in the podium.
- Eric Young and Orlando Jordan: I'm a little disappointed that they aren't doing anything serious because I think they are talented wrestlers. However, I get a big kick out of their antics, especially Eric Young. That guy is to TNA what Santino is to WWE. Pure laughs. When Jordan first came to TNA, I predicted that he wouldn't last long because he was just a failed Goldust ripoff. Good news is he found a way to tweak his act and get it right.
