This Sunday is TNA's Lockdown, and it seems that TNA actually put some effort into building up the matches this time. Coming off the Victory Road disaster, TNA really needs to put on a good show. The big attraction is that all the matches are held inside a steel cage. This can be both good and bad. Let's look at the card...
- Amazing Red vs Brian Kendrick vs Chris Sabin vs Jay Lethal vs Jeremy Buck vs Max Buck vs Robbie E vs Suicide. Xscape match.: The talent in the ring for this match makes it look like a pretty decent opening match. After reading the rules of an Xscape match, it seems like this match is going to be either really short or really long. They may eliminate guys too quickly, or it could take forever to eliminate people. Also, I get worried about having so many guys stuffed into one cage. I feel like it's too much going on in the ring at one time. I don't expect this match to be all that good until there are only a few guys left. I don't know who is going to win this one as I can't recall the buildup for this match.
- British Invasion vs Crimson and Scott Steiner vs Orlando Jordan and Eric Young vs Ink Inc.: This is another match with a ton of guys in the cage at once. One thing I don't like during wrestling matches is clutter, and I feel like there is going to be a lot of clutter here. The cage effectively limits the space everyone has to spread out and do some good work. I like the teams in this match but I have the feeling this match will be boring. I thought British Invasion would have a lot of momentum going into this match, but TNA seemed to drop the ball on them immediately. They reunited and the crowd was excited. But now, only a few weeks later, they are already just another tag team.
- Matt Morgan vs Hernandez.: I like Matt Morgan and I'm starting not to like Hernandez that much. Lately he's annoyed me a bit and has been pretty boring. Speaking of boring, this is probably like the 1,000th match these two have been in together, and the other matches with them haven't even been that good. I don't know why TNA insists on putting on this match over and over again. If they end the feud at Lockdown, I would say Hernandez should win to give his group more momentum.
- Immortal vs Fortune.: This is going to be yet another cluttered match. TNA seems to love trying to see how many people can fit inside that cage. The storyline makes this match kind of good. However, the story is kind of played out already. There has been too much contact building up to this match, and that makes the match not feel special. People are going to enjoy seeing Daniels back, which may keep some interest.
- Samoa Joe vs The Pope.: This is another feud that needs to end already. I'm so sick of these two feuding. It seems like no one has been interested in this feud for so long, yet TNA keeps continuing it. I say have Samoa Joe win, and move on. I don't really know who is going to win, and quite frankly, I don't care.
- Madison Rayne vs Mickie James. Title vs Hair for the Knockouts Title.: This match should be pretty decent. Mickie's cage match with Tara a while ago was fantastic and this should be fairly decent. Madison doesn't have the talent Tara has, but she isn't bad either. The buildup to this match has served its purpose and the stipulation is interesting. The stipulation that Mickie loses her hair if she loses makes me think she's going to win, as does the recent tension Madison and Tara have had. TNA could always go the other way with it and have Madison win, which would really build her up, but I think we can expect Tara to cost Madison the match.
- Jeff Jarrett vs Kurt Angle. Ultra Male Rules.: These two usually put on a good match, and the real life dynamic has really carried the story throughout this feud. This match has to come up big and be really great, if this is going to be a good show. As good as their matches have been, and this match will likely be, these two have to move on. This is another feud that is going on too long and losing my interest. Give these guys something new to do.
- Sting vs Rob Van Dam vs Mr. Anderson. For the World Title.: This has really been the only thing going right in TNA lately. All of these guys have legitimate beefs with each other and all are established main event level stars. In this match you have the current champion in Sting, the former champion who never got his rematch in Anderson, and the former champion who never lost his title in Van Dam. This along with the Angle vs Jarrett match really need to give the fans their money's worth.
Overall, I would say that this event isn't very appealing on paper. There's always the chance that I could be wrong though, so you should check out the show if you think you might like it. Personally, I'll just be getting the highlights. Until next time...
