Sunday is the big day. Wrestlemania 27! For me Wrestlemania is a
holiday. This year's Wrestlemania is looking great and I can't wait for
Sunday. Let's get right to previewing the matches...
- Edge vs Alberto Del Rio. World Title match.: This should be a really great match and the build up has been pretty good, especially since the addition of Brodus Clay. The fans seem to really be responding well to the Edge and Christian reunion. I would like to see more of the old Edge and Christian antics but there is plenty of time for that after Wrestlemania. That is why I actually see Alberto Del Rio winning this match. I see him becoming champion, and Edge and Christian following up by making his life a living hell.
- The Miz vs John Cena. WWE Championship match.: This is one of the real money matches this year. John Cena is the face of WWE right now and the Miz has created so much buzz for WWE since winning the title. John Cena is WWE's top face and Miz is WWE's top heel. This match will be very entertaining and emotional. It's still fairly obvious Cena will win this match and celebrate big time after. However, I think WWE has done an excellent job of making Miz look like he actually has a chance. The addition of the Rock to the build up has done two things to help this match. It got people paying attention to the match, and it provided a bit of a distraction for Cena that Miz has taken advantage of. I'm curious to see if and how the Rock will get himself involved in this match, especially after the way the show ended Monday night.
- Undertaker vs Triple H.: This match should main event the show. These are two future Hall of Famers and the hint is that the loser will retire. I can't see the streak ending on Sunday, and it would make sense for Triple H to retire from active competition, as he seems to have taken on more responsibilities backstage. Also, with Undertaker's career winding down, I really don't see the point of ending the streak. The buildup to this has been really good. Towards the end some of the interviews were getting a little overdone but Monday night was fantastic. The addition of Shawn Michaels was a great surprise and it added a lot to the interview. It really made me wish Shawn Michaels was still wrestling. Just as the segment ended, I received a text that read, "HHH vs HBK?" I don't see Triple H vs Shawn Michaels again. By the way, at first people seemed to be disappointed that Undertaker was facing Triple H rather than Sting, but I think at this point most have forgotten about Sting. I am looking forward to this match probably more than all the others.
- Randy Orton vs CM Punk.: This is going to be yet another fantastic match. CM Punk is an absolute genius and Randy Orton can get really vicious. Both of these guys are two of my favorites around today. I think getting rid of the other Nexus members was good as it allows for a clean one on one match. This is a match that has the potential to steal the show. I see Randy Orton taking this match for the feel good win.
- Jerry Lawler vs Michael Cole.: This has been one of the hottest stories in WWE coming into Wrestlemania. I'll say it one more time, the crowd is going to go nuts when Cole finally gets his. This won't be a classic wrestling match, but I think it will be highly entertaining. The addition of Stone Cold as the special referee really balances things out. At first, I thought Swagger might be in the doghouse because he was managing instead of having a match at Wrestlemania. Now, after seeing that guys like Kofi Kingston, Evan Bourne, and Ted Dibiase don't even have matches, things seem better for Swagger. I think Lawler is going to take this match after Austin catching Swagger trying to interfere. Afterward, I can see Cole getting a stunner of his own. Hopefully, Jim Ross will make his return and join the announce team at Wrestlemania 27. There is only one thing that worries me. It occurred to me today that this could all be leading up to Lawler leaving WWE. He has been with the company for so long. He's never had a title shot and never had a Wrestlemania match. This year, he is finally getting both. Also, how will Cole and Lawler work together after Wrestlemania. The only solution would be to have Cole announce on Smackdown exclusively.
- Rey Mysterio vs Cody Rhodes.: This is going to be somewhat of a sleeper match. It hasn't had a ton of big build up but these two are really good performers. I can really see this match going either way. Rey could pick up the feel good win. However, Cody can gain so much momentum in his still young career by picking up the win. Cody has more to gain from this match, but I'm expecting both to bring it on Sunday.
- John Morrison, Trish Stratus, and Snooki vs Dolph Ziggler and Lay-Cool.: This match will be very interesting. Trish and Lay-Cool are solid in the ring and will get some decent time in the ring. Snooki will likely be pretty sloppy. I can see Morrison and Ziggler doing most of the heavy lifting, with the women coming in to give them some rest. I think team Morrison will be the clear winner in this match. While Snooki probably won't be all that good in the ring, this was a great move by WWE to draw a lot of mainstream attention.
- Sheamus vs Daniel Bryan. US Title match.: Here's another sleeper match. These two have had some good matches on RAW recently, and I'm expecting them to really bring it at Wrestlemania. This match has the potential to be the best wrestled match on the show. I honestly don't know how to make a really good prediction for this match. If I had to choose, I would go with Sheamus. After his recent losing streak, losing the title so quickly could really damage his character.
- The Corre vs Big Show, Kane, Santino, and Vladimir Kozlov.: I can see this match opening the show. I'm not sure if this will be under elimination rules, but that would really help this match out. It would allow for Big Show and Kane to be eliminated without looking weak. I honestly have to say that while this should be a decent match, it is the least appealing match to me on the card. I actually kind of feel for Kane as this match seems to illustrate his typical career pattern. A few months ago, he was a monster World Champion who destroyed the Undertaker. Now he is teaming with a comedy act tag team and doing the Santino trumpet celebration on RAW. He seems to really struggle to stay relevant for long periods of time. I'm not totally sure who will win this, but if I was booking things, the Corre would take this match. The Corre is a group of four young stars who are on their way up. They have the tag titles and the intercontinental title. Having them win would be the right move.
I'm really looking forward to Wrestlemania 27 on Sunday. Most of the matches seem to have the potential to steal the show. In case you didn't see the announcement, I will be tweeting live during the show. If you are interested in my comments, make sure you are following me @TheRealDomMucc. Until next time...
